Our Mission

Calling all cinephiles! We are The Independent, an independent cinema in the heart of Huntsville, Alabama, inside Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment. We are dedicated to screening indie and foreign films, art house, classics, and cult favorites. We also host interactive events like double features, movie marathons, and more. This cinema is more than just a place to watch movies--it's a community hub for film lovers, filmmakers, and creatives of all kinds.

Our mission is to grow and strengthen the greater Huntsville community through cinema. We believe that in-person cinematic events can educate others on the art of film, foster interpersonal relationships, and broaden worldviews to make for stronger communities. The Independent team is collaborating with the current community of filmmakers and curators in North Alabama and partnering with local small businesses and organizations to bring residents and visitors a niche experience unlike any other. In addition to showing great films and providing a platform for local and national independent filmmakers and curators, our cinema lounge will serve all your favorite theater snacks in a perfect setting for hanging out before or after a screening with friends.
