Island Night: Rockers

The Independent is proud to bring you a special event celebrating the film, music, and food of Jamaica. Chef Wali of The Tiny Jerk Spot will be selling plates, and we are screening the classic Jamaican film, Rockers.

In Rockers (1978), Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace sets himself up with a gig selling records. When gangsters steal his motorbike, things turn nasty. As tensions build, Horsemouth and friends plot to end the gangsters reign of terror and restore justice to the people of Kingston. Rockers is a Jamaican Robinhood tale that features an outstanding reggae soundtrack, and virtually the entire cast is comprised of some of Jamaica’s most prominent musicians. Nearly fifty years later, the film still holds up as visually beautiful and poignant.
